Daylight Savings Transition Dates

In 2008, the Australian Eastern (NSW, Vic, ACT and Tas) and Central (SA) time zones will extend daylight saving. This transition of dates will have an impact on time- and date-sensitive computer applications such as calendaring systems. This impact will be particularly disruptive during the overlap period between the original and new transition dates (30 March 2008 to 6 April 2008 and 5 October 2008 to 26 October 2008).

The overlap periods during 2008 will exist because the start and finish dates have changed.

For the 2007-2008 end of Daylight Savings the:

New date - 3am 6 April 2008
Original date - 3am 30 March 2008

For the 2008-2009 start of Daylight Savings the:

New date - 2am 5 October 2008
Original date - 2am 26 October 2008

As these 2008 Daylight Savings changes will permanently alter the transition dates, it is important that all systems be adjusted. Adjusting all systems will reduce the impact during the 2008 transition and virtually eliminate any issues in future years.

To help ensure that your computer is aware of the new Daylight Savings Transition we recommend you follow the steps to update your computer and follow the workaround during the transition period.
