FAQ's

Q: Doesn't this show a lack of foresight and IT planning from ICT?  Who is responsible and to whom can I complain?

A: This is a universal problem affecting institutions across Australia and results directly from a decision made by Government.  The solution that the University has adopted has also been introduced in banks and government departments because there is no simple way to fix the problem.

Q: What period do I need to be concerned about possible problems related to the changed start dates for daylight savings?

A: Between 5 and 26 October 2008.

Q: What should I do to minimise the impact to date and time sensitive applications during the transition period?

A: Follow the instructions at http://itassist.usyd.edu.au/daylightsaving/ .

Q: I have installed the appropriate operating system daylight savings update on my computer, but some of my Outlook appointments still have the wrong start times.  Why is this so?

A: This is not unexpected as the patch does not update already existing appointments.  Neither does it take into consideration appointments made from another computer that is not patched.  To avoid confusion, you should follow the steps detailed at http://itassist.usyd.edu.au/daylightsaving/workaround.shtml .
