Getting Started with your new iPhone 3G

Congratulations on receiving your new iPhone!

iPhone and iTunes:

Your new Apple iPhone is designed to work hand in hand with iTunes, Apple’s desktop music, video and application management program. iTunes manages the activation, synchronization and backup functions for the iPhone and it is heavily recommended that the iPhone be used in conjunction with an installation of iTunes on your desktop or laptop. A link to install iTunes, which is a relatively simple process, is provided below. If you are experiencing difficulties installing the iTunes software then ICT or your local CSO may be able to assist (ICT Helpdesk - 9351 6000, or a local CSO) with this installation. Once iTunes is installed, you should be able to continue with the guide below.

Activating your Mobile

Now that you have your iPhone, the first thing you will need to do is activate it. This can be done by completing the following steps:

  1. Open iPhone box, and remove the dock connector and iPhone sim slot tool (located inside your black iPhone manual dossier).
  2. Insert your USYD Optus Sim Card into the iPhone.
  3. Install iTunes on local machine (available here).
  4. Connect your iPhone to local machine via usb -> Dock connector and follow the prompts in iTunes.

Once this process is completed your iPhone should be ready to go. We recommend taking this opportunity to become familiar with its interface, and try out some of the applications.
