Your UniKey Account
ICT provides many online services to staff members. The account you use to access these centralized services is called your UniKey account. Some examples of systems which require UniKey authentication include MyHROnline, WebCT, Central and Exchange email, and many others.
Your UniKey account also gives you access to a large number of optional services such as personal web hosting, dialup modem access and virtual private networking. Most of these services have costs associated with them and you can find out more about them in our Services section.
UniKey accounts are created automatically for full and part time staff members and are generally received within a week of your first pay. Casual staff members are required to get their supervisor to fill out the online request form.
By default, UniKey logins consist of either your first initial followed by the first 3 letters of your surname and 4 random numbers (e.g. abel4192), or your first inital followed by your surname (e.g. jsmith).
UniKey Email
All UniKey accounts automatically have a central email account created for them. These email accounts all have the same address format of UniKey@usyd.edu.au. These accounts can also have additional aliases. Aliases are alternate email addresses which send to the same account. You can check all the aliases on your UniKey account here.
Changing UniKey account login names
Changes to UniKey login names are often technically difficult and result in the temporary loss of multiple UniKey services. In many cases it is necessary for a technical officer to attend on site in order to regain lost functions. As such, while it is possible to change this login name, it is inadvisable to do so. There are several alternatives to changing the UniKey login name, including changing the display name, and adding additional email aliases. If you feel you need to have your UniKey login changed, please contact the Helpdesk to discuss your reasons and the implications.
Lost Passwords
If you have lost your UniKey password, you can visit an Access Lab (bring some photo ID) where they will reset your password for you on the spot. If you can't come in person, then contact the Helpdesk who can post a new password out to your registered address.
