Mailing lists
Mailman Lists
Central IT run a mailman server which allows for the creation of email lists @usyd.edu.au. Mailman lists can be administered remotely via the mailman site.
Mailman lists can be requested via an email to , or a signed fax to the ICT Director of Infrastructure (faxed to 9351 6004). Any email list created must include the department/faculty (or a recognisable shortening of the department name) that the list belongs to in its email address.
User Managed Lists
Central IT can arrange for UCML (User Configurable Mail Lists) to be created, which dynamically update the mail list from a text file in the owner's network drive. UCML email addresses must contain the department/faculty name (or a recognisable shortening of the department name) (e.g. ICT-TEST@usyd.edu.au).
If you would like to arrange for a UCML please contact the Helpdesk.
MCS Exchange Mailing Lists
Mailing lists can be created on the MCS Exchange server at the request of Departments. Mailing lists of this nature can be protected in a number of ways, ensuring that only specific people are able to send to the list, or that the list of members is not visible to the world. In addition Exchange allows for a list Manager to be set, who can edit group membership on the fly. If you would like more information or would like to request an MCS mailing list please contact the Helpdesk
