Staff Services
ICT offer a number of services to Staff members of the University. Most of these services require or are linked to a UniKey account that is attached to a current University Staff Number. Please see below for a brief description of these services, or use the menu on the left for more detailed information.
Internet and Network
ICT provides and maintains the majority of University network hardware, from network ports to the main external network routers of the University. We also maintain a dialup server to allow staff members and students to connect to the internet from their homes and the University Wireless and VPN hardware. ICT Access Labs provide internet, printing and word processing capabilities to students and staff members in key locations around the University.
Computers
ICT maintains the University's Preferred Supplier agreements for desktop and server hardware. In addition the Client Services unit are able to offer Desktop Maintenance agreements to provide on-site and phone based technical support to units of the University.
Software
ICT is responsible for the management of University wide software licenses (for example the Select or Caudit agreements and can also arrange for the purchasing of discounted software licenses for common software.)
Email and Calendars
The Central Mail servers of the University are run by the ICT unit, which provides email accounts (@usyd.edu.au) to all students and staff members of the University. A large number of departments use these servers to also provide departments specific email addresses to their staff or students (e.g. @department.usyd.edu.au).
ICT runs the MCS Exchange server which provides exchange functionality (email, calendaring, dynamic mail lists, shared workspaces etc) to staff members.
Administration Systems
ICT host and run servers for the Universities Finance, Student Records and Human Resources servers, as well as numerous other systems. A large number of these systems use Citrix remote terminal software to provide secure, inline connections to application servers.
Electronic Teaching and Learning
The University uses a number of electronic teaching and learning solutions, predominantly eLearning (was WebCT). A number of departments use department specific solutions (e.g. the Blackboard system).
Videoconferencing Services
ICT provides and maintains a number of Videoconferencing facilities and resources in conjunction with other departments of the University.
Policies and Procedures
The use of ICT resources is governed by University policy. Documents outlining current policies, procedures and guidelines relating to ICT use, security and codes of conduct are available via Policy Online.
