Optus International Calling Cards

The University has recently organised access to International Calling Cards for overseas travellers. Most staff travelling overseas use their local mobile phones and international roaming, which is convenient, but also very costly. Below are some example costs using international roaming or an International Calling Card:

  • A 13 minute call from a University mobile in New Zealand to a number in Sydney cost $43.28
  • A 13 minute call using a calling card in New Zealand to a number in Sydney cost $1.95
  • A 13 minute call from a University mobile in China to a number in Sydney cost $80.62
  • A 13 minute call using a calling card in China to a number in Sydney cost $5.85

International Calling Cards allow access to phone services for significantly reduced costs than International Roaming. Please see here for costing details.

The services are accessed by dialling a toll-free number, then entering the details of the number you wish to contact. The list of toll free numbers for individual countries can be found here.
