Want to connect to the USYD Wireless connection? Theres a few things you have to do first.

Setup your account
1. Activate your account for VPN

Setup your laptop
2. Setup your different locations
3. Setup the VPN Client

Connect
4. Make sure that you've connected to an Access Point
5. Connect your VPN client

Once you've done all of this you'll be connected to USYD's wireless network. Our complete step by step guide is below (or you can download and print off a pdf copy from the quick links menu on the right)

1. Enable the VPN Option

The VPN option will need to be added to your UniKey account to allow access to our VPN server. The basic wireless access only allows access to secure university websites only. With the VPN option and the Cisco VPN client, you can gain access to all external sites, such as Google or Hotmail.

1.1. Open Safari to this address: https://www.auth.usyd.edu.au/extro/options by clicking on the link.

1.2. Log in using your UNIKEY username and password.

1.3. Ensure that the “VPN Access” selection box is ticked.
IMPORTANT: No other option needs to be changed! If you change other options, your account may be charged!

1.4. Type in your UniKey password again at the top of the page, then Click on the “Change Options” button to make the changes final.
IMPORTANT: After enabling the VPN option, you might have to wait up to 15-20 mins for it to register on the VPN server. This means you will have to wait 15-20 mins before you can successfully authenticate with the VPN Client.

2. Set up different locations for the different proxy servers.

Your proxy settings will determine whether you use your free 6 megabytes of daily internet allowance, or the money on your UniKey account to surf internet. The following instructions are for Safari only, if you are using another browser you will need to locate the network settings and enter in the proxy settings. The advantage of setting up locations is that it allows you to easily switch proxy settings. If you are connecting to the internet from a different Internet Service Provider, you will need to select the Automatic Location; this will remove the proxy settings from Safari.

2.1. Go to the Apple menu and select Network Preferences from the Location menu

Select Location

2.2. Select New Location from the Location selection bar.

2.5.2 Repeat this process for each of the 4 protocols

2.6. If you run out of free cache you can use the paid cache, if you have money on your UniKey account. The charges are 2c per megabyte for external traffic. To use the paid cache you must have money on your UniKey account and enable the web option at https://www.auth.usyd.edu.au/extro/options. If you won’t be using the paid cache then skip to the next section.

3.2 Download the MAC OS X version that applies to you.

4. Cisco VPN Installation

4.1 After the download has completed there will be the DMG archive on your desktop (if you downloaded it to a different location such as a folder, then the archive will be there.) When extracted, this will produce an image file. When opened, this will mount the virtual disk on the desktop. Inside it is the Installer icon and two folders. These items are shown below:

5.3.2 To access these types of programs simply enter an !10 after your UniKey login (e.g. abcd1234!10). However the free cache will not work and you will have to switch to paid cache to access websites
