Web Access

The Computer Access Labs provide all students and staff of the University of Sydney with 42Mb of data per week on the web, or 6Mb of data per day. 1 MB is roughly 1000 pages of plain text per MB, or between 1 to 10 pictures depending on how large they are, or your lecture notes in MP3 format each min in length is approx: 1MB, hence this can give you between 10 - 45mins of free web surfing daily. [This 6Mb of Free Cache is in addition to resources available free of change within the Sydney University's network.]

If you wish to continue with viewing the Internet outside your 6Mb Free Cache, you will have to pay for what you view and download. You will also need to close the browser and change to the 'IE Paid Cache', by double clicking the icon on the desktop.Rates and Charges

The University of Sydney's Dial-up Internet access is where a student or staff member of the university can use the university as their Internet Service Provider (ISP).

To access the Internet using the University as an ISP (i.e Modem Access) is $4.40 per month.

If there are any problems with the Internet connection at home, please contact the ICT helpdesk directly on 9351 6000 from 8:30am until 5:30pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

All the colleges at the University of Sydney and the Sydney University Village (SUV), have access to the University's network.

So, if you have an ethernet (or network) card in your computer, you will be able to connect your computer to the University of Sydney Network, from your room in the college. This will enable you to access the Internet (both University of Sydney sites and outside Unversity sites) for your research and personal use.

Just follow these instructions to setup your computer to the University's Network.

If you are a resident of Wesley College or the International House, there are approximatley 10 computers in the college residential lab which are set up exactly the same as Computer Access Labs. However these are only available to residents of the college. You will need to prepay or "Top Up your UniKey Account" before you can access the Paid Cache or Print from these labs. The Free Cache is available on these computers also.

Wireless Internet Access can be accessed in the computer access labs, and around the University of Sydney campuses.
